This sculpture is named after one of our hens, Ava.

Ava was given her name by my mother Mary, because in her words, she was dark, sultry (maybe that was sulky!) and beautiful. However, like Grace, the inspiration for this form is that of the Mobius strip* - a fascinating geometric fom with only one side and one boundary. Associated with the themes of infinity, endlessness and unity it is also emblematic of how we experience time in a cyclical, non-linear manner.

I have found being in the company of the hens for extended periods of time, transports me to a place of non-linear, rhythmic time, repeating yet unique cycles of experience. Hence, it seemed fitting that as it was the hens that returned me to this place where I wanted to sculpt again - that my first pieces are named after them.

The mould has already been made for Ava and a small, limited edition of this piece will be available soon.

Actual metal powders, whether they be bronze, copper, aluminium, brass and so on – are used in the making of my cold-cast sculptures.

This piece will be made using a method known as cold cast bronze resin with Verdigris patina, finished with a clear matt sealant to protect the finish and enhance longevity so that the piece looks, feels, and ages like solid bronze.

Each piece due to the handcrafting process, will vary in its finish/patina.

Limited edition size of 45 pieces.

Ava will measure 36cm in height, 12cm across, and 30 cm in width approx.
